The Knoxville Area Urban League is currently accepting applications for the Minority Scholarship Program in honor of Walter S E Hardy, M.D., one of the first African-American physicians in Knoxville.

The Knoxville News Sentinel Readers’ Choice contest returns Sept. 8-22, 2013, with print ballots available each day in the News Sentinel. Readers may cast their vote for their favorite businesses throughout East Tennessee in 150 categories ranging from Romantic Dining to Mortgage Company.

The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra kicks off the Moxley Carmichael Masterworks Series and the 2013-14 season with “Eroica Trio Plays Beethoven” on September 19 & 20. The concert will take place on Thursday, September 19 and Friday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre. These performances are sponsored by Twin City Dealerships.

The 19th Annual Free Flu Shot Saturday will make free flu vaccinations available to the public this fall. Free flu shots will be given on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 8 a.m. to noon (while supplies last) at six area schools: Austin-East Magnet High School, Farragut High School, Halls High School, West High School, South-Doyle Middle School and Carter High School.
