Today, Stroupe led a group of Webb School student tutors to the Caswell Avenue club for the annual year-end party with Boys & Girls Club kids in the gym at the old facility. In that gym where Stroupe learned many life lessons, Merrill Lynch’s Dugan McLaughlin, co-chair of the “Our Kids, Our Future” campaign told the young people that when the gym is rebuilt as part of a new building, the floor will be named for Stroupe.

An estimated 16,000 people are expected to attend the 2014 Destination Imagination Global Finals competition to be held at the University of Tennessee and the Knoxville Convention Center May 21-24.

This weekend, Pilot Flying J is sponsoring the Revolution3 Triathlons in Knoxville. The festivities start Friday, May 16, with a one-mile Glow Run and continue with family adventure and kids’ triathlon races Saturday, May 17. The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra concludes its Moxley Carmichael Masterworks Series and the final performance of the 78th Season with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 this Thursday & Friday. The City of Lenoir City is proud to announce Priority Ambulance as the city’s exclusive emergency and nonemergency ambulance service provider. The one-year agreement with Lenoir City, signed April 14, empowered Priority Ambulance to provide emergency and nonemergency medical transportation within the city limits, and the ambulance company is now fully operational in the city.

The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra welcomes the high-flying act Cirque de la Symphonie to the stage for the final Knoxville News Sentinel Pops Series. The concert will take place on Saturday, May 10 at 8:00 p.m. at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium.

Associates at the U.S. Cellular Customer Care Center in Knoxville presented a check for $3,000 to Make-A-Wish East Tennessee at a gathering at the call center facilities on May 7.

Knoxville Area Urban League today received a $25,000 contribution to assist with its workforce development and employment assistance program. The grant – which was given to the non-profit organization through the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program – will work to provide job skill assessments and training to prepare Knoxville-area residents for customer service and retail jobs in their areas of interest.
