Today, Thompson Cancer Survival Center and Covenant Health announced that SUBWAY restaurants of Knoxville will become the new title sponsor of the annual Race Against Cancer. The 5K race held each fall in downtown Knoxville benefits Thompson Cancer Survival Center.

The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon Kids Run program will award a total of $4,000 to 10 area elementary schools through the 2015 Fittest School Challenge.

East Tennessee children will kick off the Covenant Kids Run with a one-mile event at the Knoxville Zoo in January and end it on the 50-yard line at Neyland Stadium in March.

Covenant Health’s cardiac program has received the highest quality designation from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), an organization dedicated to ensuring the best possible outcomes for surgeries of the heart, lung and esophagus. The society represents nearly 7,000 surgeons, researchers and allied health care professionals worldwide.

The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon announced today that it will offer a new grant program targeted at promoting healthy living in East Tennessee.

Mark Chepses of Searcy, Ark., won the 10th annual Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon on Sunday, March 30. Chepses finished the 26.2-mile men’s full marathon with a time of 2:27:31. Just 24 seconds behind Chepses was Knoxville’s Ethan Coffey, who came in second at 2:27:55. Abraham Kogo of Hebron, Ky., was third with a time of 2:33:06.

When the starting gun goes off for events in the 10th annual Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon this weekend, among the 8,000 child and adult participants will be athletes who compete despite amputations, birth defects, paralysis and limiting conditions such as arthritis.

The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon set for Sunday, March 30, marks an important milestone in the event’s history, as 2014 is the 10th anniversary of the race. It has grown to become a weekend-long event, offering a health and fitness exposition open to the public, motivational speakers, kids’ activities, fittest company and school competitions and five competitive races.
