US Nitrogen announced that Andy Velo has been promoted to plant manager at the state-of-the-art Greene County facility. Velo assumed responsibility for daily operation and maintenance of the ammonium nitrate plant on Nov. 30.

The North Greene High School football team will don pink jerseys for the home game against Hampton on Oct. 23 as part of a statewide initiative for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

US Nitrogen has hired a staff of eight permanent security guards, including a lead security guard, to supervise the team. The creation of eight additional jobs completes US Nitrogen’s hiring in anticipation of the plant opening later this year.

In mid-May, US Nitrogen employees and community members met at the West Greene High School track to begin a “Couch to 5K” running training program to improve wellness and build teamwork. After only eight weeks of training, the team tested their newfound skills at the US Nitrogen Star & Strides 5K run on July 4.

US Nitrogen presented the City of Greeneville Fire Department with a check for $50,000 on Dec. 16 to construct a five-story training facility that will simulate fire and rescue emergencies faced by local and regional personnel.

The Tusculum College men’s basketball team, as part of its community service day, installed flooring on Friday to help complete a Greene County Habitat for Humanity home in time for the holidays.
