More than 750 children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley and the City of Knoxville Parks & Recreation Summer Playground Program enjoyed an outing to the Tennessee Theatre with the first-ever Youth Arts Alliance Kids’ Movie Day on Tuesday, June 16.

The Tennessee Theatre celebrates arts in Knoxville with a Spring Open House on Tuesday, April 28, from 5-9 p.m., which will include backstage tours, Wurlitzer organ music and a book signing and history talk by Jack Neely.

The performance of “In the Mood” at the Tennessee Theatre, originally scheduled for Monday, Feb. 16, will be postponed due to inclement weather. The show will be rescheduled for April 29, 2015, at 7 p.m.

The Tennessee Theatre invites guests to a free Fall Festival Open House during First Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 with fall-themed activities, snacks and history tours of the iconic venue.

The Historic Tennessee Theatre Foundation recently named Lila Honaker its communications and development manager, a move that brings the entertainment marketing professional back to her roots at the Tennessee Theatre.

The Historic Tennessee Theatre Foundation has appointed Becky Hancock as the permanent executive director. Hancock has served in the role in an interim capacity since November.

Legendary artist Kenny Rogers, best known for country hits like “The Gambler” and “Islands in the Stream,” will headline the Tennessee Theatre’s annual “Stars on Stage” fundraiser on Saturday, May 17, at 8 p.m. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Historic Tennessee Theatre Foundation to support ongoing operations and maintenance for the theatre in the coming year.

For more than 85 years, the Tennessee Theatre has been a destination for love in Knoxville from first dates to weddings. To honor that tradition, the theater will open its doors for a free Valentine’s Day-themed open house on Friday, Feb. 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
