High school robotics teams have been working for weeks to create robots that can work as a team to throw and pass balls and block goals in hopes of a first place finish at Tennessee’s largest robotics competition, the US FIRST Robotics Smoky Mountains Regional.

The top spaniels from home and abroad will strut their stuff at the Knoxville Convention Center for a chance to be awarded “Best in Show” at the 94th Annual American Spaniel Club (ASC) Flushing Spaniel Show, January 10-12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

PBS’s highest-rated ongoing primetime series Antiques Roadshow, a production of WGBH Boston, visits Knoxville as part of an eight-city summer production tour. East Tennessee PBS will host Antiques Roadshow during their local stay. The all-day appraisal event will be held at the Knoxville Convention Center on Saturday, July 13.

The Knoxville Convention Center was recently awarded LEED Silver Certification for Existing Buildings by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for the facility’s sustainable operational policies. The facility is the first convention center Tennessee to achieve LEED certification for its green initiatives.

An estimated 18,000 people are expected to attend the 2013 Destination Imagination Global Finals competition to be held at the University of Tennessee and the Knoxville Convention Center May 22-25.

Kristi Sowards, sales manager at the Knoxville Convention Center, has been awarded the 2013 Pauly Award for Service/Supplier Employee of the Year by the Greater Knoxville Hospitality Association (GKHA) at the 9th Annual Pauly Awards sponsored by the University of Tennessee Tourism Institute and Visit Knoxville.

Some lucky anthropologists will take home a replica of a prehistoric hominid while others discuss development of the human race at the Knoxville Convention Center this week.

Last year, more than 25,000 Knoxvillians journeyed back in time 65 million years to when dinosaurs ruled the earth. The Knoxville Convention Center is once again inviting families, young people and adults to “Discover the Dinosaurs” Friday through Sunday, March 22-24.
