UScellular donates over $100,000 in wireless hotspots and service to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley and Boys & Girls Club of Oak Ridge

Oct. 27, 2021

To help provide equitable learning access and opportunities and keep local youth connected during the school year, UScellular has donated 100 wireless hotspots and two years of service to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley. Additionally, UScellular has donated 20 hotspots and one year of service to the Boys & Girls Club of Oak Ridge. Hotspots have proven to be a vital tool for youth to access the internet, study and complete homework, and these will help the Boys & Girls Clubs boost connectivity onsite, while also being loaned out to families to support reliable access at home.

“We would like to thank UScellular for their generous donation of hotspots and service to the children of East Tennessee,” said Bart McFadden, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley. “At a time in which our students need connectivity the most, this donation will help provide much-needed access to families wherever they are – so students can reach their full potential.”

The hotspots provided to the Boys & Girls Clubs connect to UScellular’s network to provide high-speed connectivity for club members throughout the Tennessee Valley and Oak Ridge area, and each hotspot has the potential to support multiple club members throughout any given day.

“The Boys & Girls Clubs provide an essential service for youth in our community, and we want to help ensure their members have the connectivity they need to be successful in school,” said Nathan Waddell, director of sales for UScellular in East Tennessee. “Wireless technology is key to providing broadband service to families in both urban and rural areas, and we believe that every family deserves access to reliable internet access. At UScellular, we want to do our part to ensure youth in our area have the resources they need to stay connected.”

UScellular has donated $2.6 million in hotspots and wireless service to 33 Boys & Girls Clubs in 2021.

Additionally, since 2015, UScellular has donated to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley to support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) educational experiences and other initiatives, including $30,000 in 2021.
