United Way of Greater Knoxville (UWGK) announces that 96 organizations have been awarded grants through its recent Community Investment Fund process. This number represents a 50% increase from the last grant cycle and the largest number of grantees in a single grant process in UWGK’s 102-year history.
Totaling $3.76 million, the Community Investment Fund grants support local nonprofits working to create lasting change in Economic Mobility, Early Care and Education, and Healthy Communities across the five-county footprint of Claiborne, Grainger, Jefferson, Knox, and Union Counties. The investments are directed strategically to programs that address critical needs and drive systemic change, with many grantees working in all three impact areas.
This year, UWGK’s enhanced grantmaking process enabled a larger pool of nonprofits, including first-time recipients, to access funding. First-time grant recipients account for 21% of the 96 organizations.
Impact Highlights
- Economic Mobility: 59 grantees are working on improving economic opportunities through workforce development, financial literacy, and support services aimed at lifting individuals and families out of poverty.
- Early Care and Education: 52 organizations have programming dedicated to enhancing early childhood education, providing essential resources, and ensuring every child has the best possible start in life.
- Healthy Communities: 71 nonprofits are working towards promoting health and wellness, expanding access to healthcare, and addressing mental health and substance use challenges within the community.
“These grants are a direct reflection of our commitment to making Knoxville a place where everyone can thrive,” UWGK President and CEO Matt Ryerson said. “Our grantees are at the forefront of creating positive change, and we are honored to support their work. We encourage the community to visit our website at uwgk.org and learn more about these incredible organizations.”
