Thanks to wireless technology, it’s more convenient than ever to watch sports and TV shows on-the-go with streaming services to any smartphone or tablet.
According to a recent U.S. Cellular survey, 61 percent of respondents ages 18 to 29 said they primarily watch television via a streaming service.¹ However, streaming isn’t just for younger users. It’s becoming easier and faster for everyone to enjoy their favorite content on-the-go from any wireless device, such as the iPhone 8 or Samsung Galaxy S8.
“Whether someone has cut the cable cord or simply doesn’t want to miss their favorite show or the big game while away from a TV, streaming is an easy, convenient option,” said Nathan Waddle, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Tennessee. “Innovative technology, especially when paired with U.S. Cellular’s unlimited data plans and high-quality network, makes for an excellent entertainment experience wherever you go. That’s what we love about wireless devices – they provide convenient solutions on the spot.”
With so many streaming services on the market, it may be challenging to determine which one is the perfect fit or provides the specific entertainment fans are seeking. U.S. Cellular suggests the following tips and streaming services for those considering “cutting the cord” or who simply want more options to watch on-the-go:
- Access in-season cable TV shows: Several services provide the ability to livestream numerous cable channels. DIRECTV NOW packages start with access to more than 60 channels, and Sling TV boasts an “a la carte” approach, offering users an opportunity to select which channels they would like included in their package. In addition, some popular networks offer a way to watch programming on wireless devices through apps such as CBS All Access and HBO Now.
- Stream popular movies and catch up on TV shows: Netflix and Hulu provide a wide range of TV shows and movies, allowing users to catch up on shows after the season has ended. Hulu offers both a streaming library of past shows, like Netflix, as well as options to watch live TV. Both services also offer original programming. On Netflix, the second season of popular show “Jessica Jones” premiered on March 8, and on Hulu, the second season of the acclaimed series “The Handmaid’s Tale” starts April 25. Amazon Prime also offers a library of movies and TV shows available to stream to wireless devices.
- Watch the big game: During March Madness through April 2, NCAA Tournament games air on CBS, TBS, TNT or truTV. Fans can stream CBS games through the NCAA March Madness Live app for Android and iOS, and streaming subscriptions with Sling TV or PlayStation Vue provide options for watching games airing on other channels. PlayStation Vue also offers live streaming through several major sports stations, including SEC Network and NFL Network, so fans also can cheer on NFL and college football teams such as the Tennessee Titans and the Vols.
- Use accessories to stream: The convenience of streaming services is that they work with existing wireless devices, including a smartphone or tablet, as well as a computer and TV. Some accessories can make the viewing experience more enjoyable. Without a smart TV, for example, a Google Chromecast allows users to connect wireless devices to any TV to view streaming content on the big screen.
With the continued growth in popularity, streaming offers convenience and flexibility to stay entertained from anywhere with any device.
