South College Pittsburgh hosted counselors from 15 local high schools Oct. 1 to tour the campus and see firsthand the resources and educational tools available for prospective students making college decisions.
The event began with a light breakfast, and the tour, led by the Admissions Department, featured key departments, brief presentations and remarks from campus leaders. Department chairs from Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Radiography and Surgical Technology provided an overview of programs, curriculum and educational opportunities. Admissions, Student Services, Career Services, Registrar and Financial Aid also provided information.
“High school counselors help students explore careers and can provide trusted insight about options for higher education,” South College Pittsburgh President Dr. Anne Petrella said. “They work directly with high school students, and we wanted to provide counselors in this area with an up-close view of our campus, a chance to meet one-on-one with our department leaders and the opportunity to gather information that can be shared with prospective students.”
Pittsburgh is an important hub in the healthcare industry, and the counselors also were able to see how South College prepares students with radiography, surgical technology, diagnostic medical sonography, nursing, medical assisting and simulation labs. This is the second similar event at the Pittsburgh campus.
“South College has a lot to offer students in terms of teacher-to-student ratios, academic support and modern facilities,” said Dr. Peggy Brinton, Dean of Academic and Student Services. “We wanted to open up our campus to local high school counselors to offer an overview of the different professional pathways and tools available to our college students to help support them as they pursue their dreams.”

Located in Pittsburgh’s North Hills community in Cranberry Township, the South College campus offers a variety of healthcare programs, including Bachelor of Science in Nursing and healthcare-centric Associate of Science programs in Surgical Technology, Nursing, Health Science (Pre-Nursing), Radiography, Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Respiratory Therapy, along with certificate programs in Practical Nursing and other related programs.
