South College Atlanta has earned programmatic accreditation for its Associate of Science in Radiography (AS) by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
The three-year initial award of accreditation by JRCERT, which became official in August, ensures that the first graduating class of 2020 will earn an AS degree from a fully accredited program at the Atlanta campus.
“As we continue to add programs in high-demand fields, such as healthcare, we also realize that those programs must withstand a vigorous review by accrediting agencies,” said Josh Huffaker, president of South College Atlanta. “The decision by JRCERT reflects the quality of our radiography program including the faculty, curriculum, and facility. I also want to thank the staff at South College who worked so hard to make sure we met or exceeded every standard for this accreditation.”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the job outlook nationwide for radiologic technologists will grow faster than average at 9 percent between 2018-2028. The median annual salary in 2019 was $60,510.
South College students learn to operate current radiographic equipment and create radiographic images that help doctors and other members of the healthcare team diagnose and treat patients in a variety of clinical settings. Students successfully completing the 24-month AS degree program are eligible to apply for admission to take the certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
