South College Asheville is launching an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program and has received full approval for its Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program from the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

For the ASN program, which has earned initial approval by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, students will work to build a strong academic foundation and learn fundamental skills required of a nurse generalist, including the basics of medical care, critical thinking, interpersonal skills and technical competence. Graduates will prepare for and take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) exam after graduation.
The initial approval allows South College to begin admitting a maximum of 120 students annually in the program. The prerequisite courses for the ASN program are scheduled to start in April 2025, and enrollment is now open. Upon completion, graduates may choose to continue their education by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

In addition, the LPN certificate program has earned full approval by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, which cited an on-site survey completed during the final term of curriculum implementation and a successful NCLEX examination pass rate. LPN students collect and organize healthcare data, coordinate with other nurses and healthcare providers to provide patient care and identify and understand common health problems.

“The initial approval for a new ASN program and full approval of our LPN program underscores our commitment to a top-notch education for two in-demand careers with opportunities for additional advancement,” South College Asheville President Dr. Danielle Kwasnik said. “The healthcare sector in Asheville is growing with an accompanying need for new nursing practitioners. We always focus on adding and excelling at programs that meet local workforce needs.”
South College offers multiple healthcare programs from certificate to doctoral levels across several disciplines, and students who qualify for financial aid have access to a range of programs as do members of the U.S. military, veterans and their families.
