South College in Asheville will begin offering a bachelor’s degree in business administration (BBA) with a concentration in project management. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for the global economy.
Students who complete the BBA with concentration in project management may take the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) exam, which is overseen by the Project Management Institute. The certification is an asset for both first-time job seekers and those wanting to advance their current management careers.
“Project managers work in a range of fields from accounting to construction to technology,” said Josh Huffaker, campus president of South College in Asheville. “In addition to learning project management, students will develop skills in business research, contract management, economics and finance.”
The Project Management Institute has determined that opportunities for jobs and career growth for project manager sectors worldwide will grow 33 percent by 2027, with nearly 22 million new positions. In the United States, the expected job growth is 12 percent through 2020 with 6.2 million project management jobs. The median project manager salary in the United States exceeds $100,000 a year, according to the Project Management Institute.
“Project managers are trained to identify and analyze business issues, meet deadlines and determine effective solutions for projects, especially in terms of productivity,” Huffaker said. “South College identifies fast-growing career tracks and adapts our course offerings to meet demand and help students as they shift from degree earner to gainfully employed professional.”
