Summit Sleep Services’ Alok Sachdeva, M.D., has been appointed to the Lifelong Learning Development Committee of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), which provides oversight on educational resources and training.

Alok Sachdeva, M.D.

Established in 1975, AASM is the only professional society and accreditation body dedicated exclusively to the medical specialty of sleep medicine. The organization has a combined membership of greater than 11,000 accredited sleep centers and individual members, including physicians, scientists, and other health care professionals.

Summit Sleep Services, a division of Summit Medical Group, operates a comprehensive sleep disorders facility that has been accredited by AASM continuously since 2005. In his work with Summit Sleep Services, Sachdeva diagnoses and treats sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy.

As a member of the Lifelong Learning Development Committee, Sachdeva will assist in the development of educational resources related to lifelong learning in the field of sleep medicine, including the sleep medicine in-training examination and maintenance of certification products. His appointment begins in June 2022 and lasts one year, with the opportunity to be reappointed next year.

“This committee plays a vital role in advancing the mission of AASM,” Sachdeva said. “The educational materials we develop are used to improve the practice of sleep medicine across the country, including here in East Tennessee.”

Sachdeva has been with Summit Medical Group since 2020 and practices at the Summit Sleep Center located at 1128 E. Weisgarber Road, Suite 201, in Knoxville.
