Moxley Carmichael has hired Leslie Wylie Bateman as an account executive to develop and implement communication strategies for the company’s clients.
“Leslie’s creative energy, forward-thinking mindset, talent for crafting compelling stories and enthusiastic and institutional understanding of our community make her a wonderful fit for our team,” said Lauren Miller, CEO of Moxley Carmichael. “We are excited to see the innovative solutions she will deliver to our clientele.”
Bateman brings more than two decades of media experience to the firm, having contributed to prominent publications including The Washington Post. Her early accomplishments in Knoxville include becoming editor-in-chief of Knoxville’s former alt-weekly Metro Pulse at age 24. Prior to this role, Bateman co-founded Knoxville Magazine and served as its managing editor while pursuing a master’s degree in journalism at the University of Tennessee.
“As a Knoxville native, I have always respected Moxley Carmichael’s intentionality in aligning with businesses and organizations that make a positive impact in our city,” Bateman said. “By helping the company achieve our clients’ goals, I have the opportunity to play a role in fostering Knoxville’s growth and success.”
Before joining Moxley Carmichael, Bateman, a lifelong horse enthusiast, led equestrian sports media company Nation Media, LLC, for 10 years, developing it from a single blog into a network of websites with 1.5 million unique visitors annually. Her work took her around the globe, providing coverage of major events including world championships and Olympic Games. Additionally, Bateman used her platform to promote diversity and inclusion within equestrian sport and address issues such as safety and equine welfare.
Bateman already has undertaken a variety of projects at Moxley Carmichael and will collaborate with clients across multiple sectors, including nonprofit, health care, consumer products and professional services.
Bateman lives in South Knoxville with her husband, Tommy, and their 4-year-old son, Thomas. She enjoys attending live music events, playing One Knox Rec Soccer, leading trail rides at Blackberry Farm and cultivating the family’s yard as a wildlife- and pollinator-friendly habitat.
