In recognition of its quality and patient safety, Knoxville Orthopaedic Surgery Center (KOSC) was named a Leapfrog Top Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in 2021, one of only 13 selected nationally for the competitive award.
Ambulatory surgery centers are high-quality healthcare facilities that provide outpatient procedures. The quality of patient care across many areas of ASC performance is considered in identifying award winners, including staffing, patient experience, hand hygiene, surgical checklist protocols and error prevention.
“KOSC provides specialized care and safe, comfortable and efficient options for orthopaedic surgery and procedures,” said Douglas N. Calhoun, M.D., hand surgeon and medical director of KOSC. “Being recognized as one of the top 13 ASCs in the nation further substantiates our reputation for excellence and our commitment to quality patient care.”
This is the inaugural year of Leapfrog’s Top ASC award which honors top performers as verified by the Leapfrog ASC Survey. The award is presented by The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers widely acknowledged as the toughest standard-setters for health care safety and quality.
“We are proud to honor Knoxville Orthopaedic Surgery Center for their quality and patient safety. They have demonstrated to the community – and to the whole country – that they put patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the staff, surgeons, nurses and all the clinicians whose teamwork helped achieve this national recognition.”
A total of 13 ASCs across the United States were selected as Top ASCs, representing:
- 7 States
- Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia
- 10 Specialties
- Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Urology, Dermatology, Neurological Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
