Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic offers training event for school nurses

Jun. 16, 2025

Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic will host its annual School Nurse Day in July, and registration is open now through June 19. This one-day educational seminar is an opportunity for school nurses across East Tennessee to expand their knowledge and skills and connect with fellow professionals.

“We’re proud to bring together specialists from across the region to share valuable information with school nurses,” said Dr. Amber Luhn, a KOC sports medicine physician. “These nurses are on the front lines of student health, and this event is about providing them with tools and insight to better serve their students and schools.”

School nurses will hear from a diverse group of experts on topics including concussions, emergency medical response techniques, handling eye emergencies, providing first-aid for orthopaedic injuries and information on children’s mental health care.

Participating organizations include KOC Sports Medicine; Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services, McNabb Center and the optometry and ophthalmology practice of Drs. Campbell, Cunningham, Taylor & Haun with offices across East Tennessee.

Registration is available online at kocortho.com/school-nurse-day for $20, which includes lunch and snacks. The event will be held Thursday, July 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Rothchild Catering & Conference Center in West Knoxville. Participants will earn five hours of credit and will receive a certificate upon completion.

KOC has a longstanding tradition of investing in medical education and community outreach. Events like this emphasize KOC’s role as a community leader in health education, outreach and service across the region.
