Johnson Architecture’s Gabrielle Howard earns licensure

Oct. 28, 2026

Johnson Architecture’s Gabrielle Howard has earned her architectural license and been named a project manager, marking an important milestone in her career. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Howard earned her Bachelor of Architecture in 2022 and Master of Landscape Architecture in 2023 before joining JAI later that year.

“We’re really proud of Gabrielle and all the work she’s put into reaching this milestone,” said Jeff Williamson, president of Johnson Architecture. “Becoming a licensed architect takes years of hard work and commitment, and she’s managed to do all of that while making meaningful contributions to our projects and our team. It’s been a pleasure watching her grow as a designer, and we’re excited to see what’s ahead for her.”

Howard has contributed to many successful JAI projects, including developing innovative ways for a client with a visual impairment to experience the design of a new home. She helped create a series of tactile tools, including 3D-printed floor plans and models, that allowed the client to understand and contribute to evolving design plans through touch.

Becoming a licensed architect requires a combination of education, professional experience, and examination. Candidates must complete an accredited degree program, gain thousands of hours of supervised experience, and pass the six-division Architect Registration Examination (ARE), which evaluates their knowledge of building design, construction, project management, and professional practice

With Howard’s licensure, JAI now has 12 registered architects and three registered interior designers. Her achievement reflects a culture of learning and professional growth, where team members are encouraged and supported as they advance in their careers.

She currently resides in East Knoxville with her husband, newborn, and two dogs. She enjoys reading, true crime podcasts, and restoring furniture.
