Name Your Own Price During Adopt-a-Cat Month at Young-Williams Animal Center

June is Adopt-a-Cat Month, and Young-Williams Animal Center is celebrating with a truly unique adoption fee special: name your own price.

“Adopt-a-Cat Month coincides with the annual spike in the number of cats at the shelter due to the spring mating season,” said Young-Williams Animal Center CEO Jeff Ashin. “We want each of the cats and kittens we have now to go to a great forever home, and we don’t want the price of adoption to prevent that.”

During the month of June, Young-Williams Animal Center is allowing potential adopters to determine the adoption price for cats and kittens on the adoption floor. The center hopes area families and individuals will be inspired to adopt at a comfortable price.

The normal adoption fees include a veterinary physical exam, spay/neuter surgery, some standard vaccinations, a microchip with registration and more.

“We believe potential pet owners will amaze us with the value they place on their new furry friends,” Ashin said. “Certainly, for the month of June, the ‘price is right’ on adoption fees for cats and kittens. And some adoptable pets have been sponsored by generous donors, so their adoption fees are already covered.”

In addition to new births, mating season also adds another reason for the pet overpopulation at the shelter – lost pets. Cats and dogs alike that have not been spayed or neutered often stray from home this time of year. Owners are encouraged to make sure pets are microchipped and wearing ID tags – and to spay and neuter pets. To schedule an appointment with Young-Williams Spay/Neuter Solutions, call 865-215-6677.

“If you lose a pet, please check with Young-Williams Animal Center immediately and check our Lost and Found Center every few days,” Ashin said. “All stray animals picked up by both City of Knoxville and Knox County Animal Control units are brought to Young-Williams. We would love to see our rate of owner reclaims increase so more pets are returned to their families, and we can then free kennel space for pets that don’t have homes and need a loving family to adopt them.”

To adopt, please visit the two conveniently located Knoxville adoption facilities: Young-Williams Animal Center at 3201 Division Street and Young-Williams Animal Village at 6400 Kingston Pike. The Lost and Found Center is located at Young-Williams Animal Center on Division Street.
