The Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians has started a campaign to help troops and families in response to the devastation caused in the region by Hurricane Helene.
The Appalachian Strong campaign includes the sale of T-shirts and stickers, with all proceeds dedicated to helping Girl Scout families impacted by the hurricane. Funds will be used for financial assistance and scholarships; uniform, patch, and badge replacements; troop and service unit supply replenishment; and restoration of damaged camp properties in the Girls Scouts of Southern Appalachians’ footprint in East Tennessee and Virginia.
“I am incredibly proud of the resilience and kindness demonstrated by our Girl Scouts,” said Lynne Fugate, CEO of the Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians. “Their quick response, donations and support have made a meaningful difference to the communities in need.”

A special Appalachian Strong patch has been created that can be earned by Girl Scouts through community service directed at Hurricane Helene relief and recovery endeavors. Additionally, troops have gathered essential supplies like hygiene kits, blessing boxes and other necessities for those affected by the hurricane in a show of unity and compassion.
The recent back-to-back natural disasters have left a profound impact on the Southeast with widespread devastation and flooding.
“Let’s continue to keep our Girl Scout sisters in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida in our thoughts as they recover from Hurricanes Helene and Milton,” Fugate said. “Our Girl Scouts have exemplified the true spirit of ‘be prepared’ and are coming together to support their communities in need.”
