Gerdau recently made a $1,000 donation to its former Lonsdale neighbor, Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee. The donation equates to 3,000 meals for our neighbors in need.
“Our mill developed a relationship with Second Harvest when they were located right down the street from us,” said Gerdau Vice President and General Manager Johnny Miller. “Although they have moved to Maryville, we still believe in their mission and are happy to make this donation to help put food on the table for area families.”
Second Harvest Food Bank reports that in East Tennessee, one person out of every six goes hungry each night and that the “working poor” make up the largest portion of people receiving food donations from Second Harvest.
“Second Harvest is deeply grateful to Gerdau for its friendship and ongoing partnership,” said Second Harvest Executive Director Elaine Streno. “This gift will provide 3,000 meals in our 18 county service area. We thank everyone at Gerdau for their generosity.”
Gerdau has a robust social responsibility program that focuses on providing community support in the locations where it operates.
Nationally, Gerdau donates funds to the United Way, Habitat for Humanity and Junior Achievement.
