Fuel up for United Way during Pilot Pumpers Oct. 1-3

Sep. 18, 2018

When you visit any Knox County Pilot Convenience Store during Pilot Celebrity Pumpers, a celebrity will pump your gas as you help the United Way of Greater Knoxville make an even bigger difference in our community.

During the 26th annual Pilot Celebrity Pumpers, dozens of Knoxville celebrities, including media personalities, University of Tennessee representatives and elected officials, will pump gas for Pilot guests Monday-Wednesday, Oct. 1-3.

During the three-day event, Pilot will donate five cents of every gallon of gasoline sold and 10 cents of every dollar spent in-store to the United Way. The event takes place at all Knox County Pilot Convenience Store locations.

Pilot Founder and Chairman James A. Haslam II presents a check for $94,091 to United Way of Greater Knoxville CEO Ben Landers at the Pilot Convenience Store at 1826 Western Ave on Oct. 18, 2017. The funds were raised during “Pilot Celebrity Pumpers,” the annual single largest fundraising event for the United Way of Greater Knoxville. The 2018 fundraiser is set for Oct. 1-3.

“Pilot Pumpers is still going strong after a quarter of a century because local celebrities donate their time and the community continues to support this annual benefit,” Pilot Founder Jim Haslam said. “We invite everyone to fuel up at Pilot and help us give back to the United Way of Greater Knoxville, which gives so much to our community.”

Pilot Celebrity Pumpers is the single-largest special event fundraiser for the United Way of Greater Knoxville’s annual campaign. The 2017 event totaled a record $94,091, and since its inception, the event has raised more than $1.3 million for United Way.

Celebrity pumpers this year include Pilot Flying J NASCAR driver Michael Annett, University of Tennessee Director of Athletics Phillip Fulmer and Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero, along with other officeholders and local television and radio personalities.
