Celebrity pumpers greet Pilot customers throughout Knox County
When you stop for gas next week, why not let a TV news anchor, basketball coach or even a mayor do the heavy lifting for you?
Approximately 70 elected officials and media personalities will help Pilot support the United Way of Greater Knoxville during the 22nd annual Pilot Celebrity Pumpers event. These local celebrities will be pumping gas for customers at Pilot stores Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 6-8.
During the three-day event, Pilot will donate five cents of every gallon of gasoline sold and 10 percent of in-store sales at all Knox County locations to the United Way of Greater Knoxville.
“Thanks to our great customers, Pilot has been able to support the United Way through this event for more than two decades,” said Jim Haslam, Pilot founder and chairman. “We are grateful to the local celebrities who donate their time over these three days, and we are particularly thankful for the United Way and its partner agencies for the work they do year-round to help those in need throughout our community.”
Pilot Celebrity Pumpers is the single-largest special event fundraiser for the United Way of Greater Knoxville’s annual campaign. The 2013 event raised a record $86,200, and since its inception, the event has raised a total of more than $1 million for United Way.
Celebrity pumpers this year include Pilot Flying J NASCAR driver Michael Annett, University of Tennessee Athletic Director Dave Hart, University of Tennessee Women’s Basketball Coach Holly Warlick, University of Tennessee Men’s Basketball Coach Donnie Tyndall, Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett, along with a host of other state and local officials and local television and radio personalities.
“Mark your calendars for Oct. 6-8, and plan to have a Celebrity Pumper serve you – as you support the United Way,” Haslam said. “You’ll help us make a difference in East Tennessee, and it’s as simple as filling up your gas tank.”
