Covenant Health has become the largest sponsor for the Knoxville Area Urban League’s 16th Annual “Shoes for School” program on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018.
An impactful program hosted by the Knoxville Area Urban League, “Shoes for School” provides free new shoes and school supplies to more than 1,200 students. Children and their families, area businesses, nonprofits, church groups and other volunteers interact at this festive event that offers games and community camaraderie.
In addition to its sponsorship, Covenant Health will provide a volunteer team of employees to staff a tent full of fun and goodies for the children.
“Covenant Health is proud to support the Urban League’s ‘Shoes for School’ program,” said Jim VanderSteeg, president and CEO of Covenant Health. “Making sure children have the basic needs to start the new school year is critical to both their well-being and their academic success.”
“Shoes for School” is a signature event for the Knoxville Area Urban League, and Phyllis Y. Nichols, president and CEO of the organization, welcomed the sponsorship commitment of Covenant Health.
“We are so pleased to announce that Covenant Health has joined us as our largest sponsor,” Nichols said. “They understand the difference that this makes to our area children and are helping us grow this joyful and important program.”
