Covenant Health South to offer primary care, urgent care, imaging and other healthcare services
Covenant Health is bringing convenient care to the people of South Knoxville and Seymour. The East Tennessee-based health system has constructed a new medical facility in South Knoxville, located at the corner of Chapman Highway and Mountain Grove Drive. In addition to urgent care, medical services available will include primary care, imaging and diagnostics, physical and occupational therapy, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and specialized medical care.
Located at 7625 Chapman Highway along the South Knoxville corridor, the new campus features Covenant Health Urgent Care, which will serve patients seven days a week. It also includes Covenant Health Diagnostics, providing state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the highest quality imaging for better detection and offering a discounted imaging program, and Covenant Therapy Centers, providing physical, occupational and orthopedic therapy for back and neck pain, arthritis management and more. In addition, the campus includes offices of Southern Medical Group, providing primary care services; Fort Sanders Women’s Specialists, providing comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care; Knoxville Heart Group, providing cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation services; and East Tennessee Nephrology, providing chronic kidney disease management.
“Covenant Health is on a mission to bring the right care, at the right time, in the right place to the people of East Tennessee. We’re expanding our facilities, enhancing our technology and proactively investing in services and resources that provide high-quality care to local communities throughout our region,” Covenant Health President and CEO Jim VanderSteeg said.
“Covenant Health South will provide more convenient, close-to-home access to primary and urgent care to the residents of South Knoxville and Seymour, as well as additional diagnostic and rehabilitation services. It’s one of several new Covenant Health locations opening this year that are furthering our mission to improve the quality of life through better health.”
A ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the phased opening of the new facility was held on March 3 with more than 100 community leaders and local officials in attendance, including Knoxville City Mayor Indya Kincannon, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs, City Council Member Tommy Smith, County Commissioner Carson Dailey, State Senator Becky Duncan Massey and State Representative Elaine Davis.
“There’s a lot of energy in this part of town. It’s palpable,” Mayor Kincannon said. “South Knoxville is growing. It’s growing because of intentional investments in people, places, connectivity, the outdoors and more. But none of that matters unless residents have access to health care. The bottom line is that high quality health care is linked to a higher quality of life, and that’s what’s needed in all corners of our community. I want to thank Covenant for all the investments here at Covenant Health South and also across our city.”
“We very much appreciate everyone who works in the health care industry in an effort to help with the health of our community,” Mayor Jacobs said. “Anything that we can do to make healthcare more accessible, whether it’s through lower cost or whether it’s through more locations in the community, that’s a very good thing. I’m really excited about this location being here and for the huge investment Covenant Health makes in our community.”
The facility totals 47,346 square feet including a community room and the potential for future expansion. Free parking also is available on the campus. Johnson & Galyon began construction in 2020. Medical services will open in phases to the public starting in March 2023, and all services will be available to patients by May 2023.
