At its June 12 board meeting, Asbury Inc., operator of Asbury Place continuing care retirement communities in Maryville and Kingsport, added Eric Deaton to its board of directors and elected new officers.

Deaton, who is from Kingsport, is the executive vice president/chief operating officer at Wellmont Health System. He earned his MBA at Bristol College and a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting at Milligan College. An active community volunteer, Deaton currently serves on the Federation of American Hospitals board of governors and the Averett University board of directors in Danville, Va. In 2012, he was appointed by the governor’s office to serve as a hospital industry representative on the Virginia Board of Health.

Newly elected officers include: Nellie Ward Cole, chair, Nashville; Guy Wilson, vice chair, Johnson City; Bob McCollum, secretary, Piney Flats; and Beth Stubbs, treasurer, Knoxville. Sandra Davis of Maryville is immediate past chair, and ex-officio members include Kingsport resident Michael Lattier, board legal counsel, and Alcoa resident Mary Virginia Taylor, bishop of the Holston Conference.

Other members of the board are: David W. Atkinson of Kingsport; Michael Cullen of Louisville, Tenn.; Marvin Eichorn of Johnson City; Larry Martin of Maryville; Marsheine McClurg of Alcoa; and Cole Piper of Knoxville.
