Fees reduced to promote forever homes May 23-26

Young-Williams Animal Center is celebrating Memorial Day and the start of the summer vacation season with an adoption special.

“Memorial Day weekend is a great time to adopt a pet,” Jeff Ashin, Young-Williams Animal Center CEO, said. “It is important that we continue to adopt animals throughout the summer months, as it is also our highest intake season. The ‘pet-riotic’ adoption special is the perfect way to start the summer.”

From May to August last year, over 5,500 animals were picked up by animal control, brought in by concerned citizens or surrendered by their owners and taken to Young-Williams Animal Center. The intake during those four months represented 42 percent of the shelter’s annual intake in 2013.

From Friday, May 23, to Monday, May 26, Young-Williams will offer special pricing for all adult dogs and cats. Each potential adopter that arrives looking for a furry friend will spin the “Wheel of Savings” with discounts ranging from $5 to a free pet.

Every adopted animal will receive the services covered by the regular adoption fees, which include a veterinary exam, spay/neuter surgery, some standard vaccinations, a microchip with registration and more. The adoption special will be available at Young-Williams Animal Center at 3201 Division St., off Sutherland Avenue, and the Young-Williams Animal Village at 6400 Kingston Pike on Bearden Hill.

“Make this summer one you will always remember because you added a furry member to your family,” Ashin said. “At Young-Williams Animal Center, we take in an average of 14,000 animals every year for which there are simply not enough homes. In addition to adoption, it is imperative more pet owners spay and neuter their pets. It is the most effective and most humane way to impact the pet overpopulation in East Tennessee.”
