RandyFieldsNew300Knoxville City Council recently announced the appointment of Randy Fields of Messer Construction Co. to the Public Assembly Facilities Board of Directors.

“Randy has a strong background in management and business development, which will be an asset to the City of Knoxville in his work with the Public Assembly Facilities Board,” said City Councilman Finbarr Saunders. “He has a sincere interest in getting more deeply involved with the community and will bring a fresh perspective to the board. It was my honor to appoint him to this position.”

The Pubic Assembly Facilities Board oversees the management and operation of the Knoxville Civic Auditorium, Civic Coliseum and Chilhowee Park. Of the 11 board members, nine are appointed by the City Council and two are appointed by the City Mayor and confirmed by City Council. The board meets quarterly.

A graduate of Warren Wilson College in Asheville, N.C., Fields began his career in Knoxville nearly 20 years ago. In addition to this new appointment, he also serves on the economic development committee for the Knoxville Chamber and on the Presidential Advisory Council at Tusculum College. He is also a member of the East Tennessee Industrial Council and the Tennessee Economic Development Council.

Fields is a decorated Veteran of Foreign War, having served in both Saudi Arabia and Iraq during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield.

Fields and two other new Public Assembly Facilities Board members, George Bove and Herbert Slattery, will join returning members LeTonia Armstrong, Parci Gibson, Sandra Butler, Brenda Brooks, Ryan Cazana, Scott Romines, Bill Collier and Sylvia Woods. Fields will serve through March 2017.
