Covenant Health expands women’s care with first urogynecologist and pelvic health event

Oct. 21, 2026

Covenant Health has welcomed fellowship-trained urogynecologist Laurel Carbone, MD, to its women’s health team. As Covenant Health’s first female specialist highly trained in both gynecology and urology, Dr. Carbone expands access to specialized care for pelvic floor, bladder bowel and reproductive organ issues.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, Dr. Carbone will join Covenant Health physical therapist Candace Jarrett at Parkwest Medical Center for an educational event on pelvic floor and bladder health. Attendees can receive expert guidance and ask questions during a live Q&A.

The National Institutes of Health indicates that roughly one in three women develop pelvic floor issues, while at least one in four women over the age of 20 suffer from active symptoms that impact their daily quality of life.

Dr. Carbone specializes in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery. Her clinical interests include pelvic organ prolapse, bladder leakage with movement, bowel control issues, mesh-related complications and pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.

“I’m excited to join Covenant Health and provide specialized care for women experiencing pelvic floor and bladder conditions,” Dr. Carbone said. “Many women may believe symptoms such as bladder leakage, pelvic pressure or pain are simply something they have to live with. My goal is to help patients understand that these symptoms are common, but they are not something they necessarily have to accept as a normal part of aging or life.”

As a fellowship-trained urogynecologist, Dr. Carbone has pursued advanced training specifically focused on the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders. She earned her medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine in Memphis and has remained engaged in research throughout her career. Her published research has explored topics including the use of lidocaine patches for nerve evaluation, infection reduction in sacral neuromodulation and surgical treatment for vaginal prolapse.

Covenant Health will host The Core of Confidence: Pelvic Floor and Bladder Health from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, in the Dogwood Classrooms at Parkwest Medical Center, 9352 Park West Blvd., in Knoxville.
