A team of runners from South College Orlando, which sponsored a 5K race to benefit Nemours Children’s Hospital, laced up their shoes to support the cause on the road.
The annual Run Nona 5K & Nemours Children’s Run took place Sept. 19 at Lake Nona Town Center in Orlando, where the event became a block party for runners of all ages and their families with face painting, a balloon artist, an ice cream truck, food and a live band.
“Our seven runners went the extra mile to show South College’s support for Nemours Children’s Hospital,” said South College Orlando President Melissa McMahon. “Our sponsorship reflects our commitment to stand with healthcare providers and champion wellness in our community while preparing the next generation of highly trained healthcare professionals.”
Proceeds from this year’s racing event benefit the Lake Nona Life Project, an IRB-approved study that examines patterns, predictors and strategies to improve health and wellness, advance healthy longevity and reduce the onset and progression of preventable disease.
“I’m proud of our team for contributing sweat equity to show up for health and wellness in the Lake Nona area and beyond,” said McMahon.
Since opening in 2021, the South College Orlando campus has expanded its offerings to include healthcare-related certificate, associate and bachelor’s programs in Health Science, Imaging Science, Medical Assisting, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy and Surgical Technology, as well as a Master of Health Science Physician Assistant program.
South College Orlando also recently celebrated a campus expansion, adding more than 25,000 square feet to its footprint to enhance instructional facilities and accommodate a growing student body and catalog of programs.
