South College Nashville held a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 23 to celebrate the expansion of its Dental Clinic and increased campus footprint to accommodate demands across the healthcare spectrum, including nursing, imaging science and physical therapy.

“We have been and will continue to be very intentional about how we increase access to higher education,” South College Nashville President Nick South said. “The addition of a new building and expansion of our Dental Clinic enhance our delivery of the curricula and hands-on training we offer as part of that vision.”

The new building is across the street from the first campus building at 616 Marriott Drive and adds 37,500 square feet across two floors to provide more space for faculty, staff and students. The additions include three new classrooms, a student center, new labs for nursing and Doctor of Physical Therapy programs and simulation labs with high- and medium-fidelity manikins. The lifelike manikins are interactive simulators that help students practice hands-on patient care.

All faculty and staff are now located on the same floor with offices, a conference room and a breakroom.

“We have needed additional space as our campus and programs experience unprecedented growth,” South said. “We are excited about this new chapter.”

The Dental Clinic, which opened in 2019, has been expanded by approximately 4,000 square feet to accommodate more dental students and growing demand for public access to dental care. With this additional space and new dental chairs, the cohort admissions for the dental hygiene program will increase from 40 to 60 students. The expansion also enhances opportunities for South College to serve the public.

The clinic offers free dental cleanings to veterans, discounted services to current military, first responders and people over the age of 65 and also partners with Hope Smiles in Nashville to provide dental care in underserved communities.

The Nashville campus, which originally opened in 2017, has focused on offering programs, especially in healthcare fields, that lead to viable professional opportunities for students upon graduation and help meet demands in key fields.

Students may pursue degrees in Business and Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Dental Hygiene and Assisting, Health Science, Imaging Science, Medical Assisting, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Psychology, Respiratory Therapy and Surgical Technology.

The campus buildings on Marriott Drive in Nashville are centrally located in the heart of the medical community. They feature classrooms, laboratories and other conveniences for students and faculty and large student centers.
