South College Indianapolis adds Alisha Harter as Associate Dean of Nursing

Jan. 08, 2026

South College has selected Alisha Harter as Associate Dean of Nursing for its Indianapolis campus. Harter brings more than 25 years of experience in nursing and professional development and will focus on providing academic and administrative leadership for the campus Nursing programs.

Alisha Harter

Harter traces her initial interest in nursing to fourth grade, when she read the story of Red Cross founder Clara Barton and was inspired by her transformation from meek girl to battlefield nurse. That spark ignited when Harter participated in a high school program that immersed students in a local emergency department, where she developed compassion for patients.

“Nursing is a profession driven by purpose to make a difference in others’ lives,” Harter said. “I’m excited to pair my passion for nursing with my experience in hospitals and professional development to support our amazing nursing students and faculty at South College.”

Harter began her clinical career as a licensed professional nurse (LPN). She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Ball State University and a master’s degree in nursing leadership in healthcare systems from Regis University. Harter served as a director for nursing professional development for a university hospital system before joining the School of Nursing at South College in November 2025.

“Alisha Harter has personal experience advancing her nursing career through education and has spent many years helping support nurses in a hospital setting,” said Courtney Martin Sechler, president of South College Indianapolis. “We know she’ll be an asset to both students and faculty and are pleased to welcome her to the team.”

Harter married her high school sweetheart, Todd, and together they have four adult children, one of whom is pursuing a career in nursing.

She and her husband enjoy adventure in their free time, from riding motorcycles to scuba diving.

South College Indianapolis, which opened in 2021, is located at 301 Pennsylvania Parkway and has expanded its healthcare programs, including nursing, from certificate to bachelor levels across several disciplines.
