Nov. 20, 2025
South College Pittsburgh partners with Butler County nonprofit VOICE to educate healthcare students to help recognize and support survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and human trafficking while working in the medical field. The campus is located at 3000 Westinghouse Dr., Suite 200, in Cranberry Township.

South College Pittsburgh partnered with Butler County nonprofit VOICE to present information and resources to healthcare students on Nov. 20 to help them recognize and support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking while working in the medical field.

“We have been proud to partner with VOICE since 2022 and are committed to equipping our students with essential knowledge and insight that can assist them as healthcare practitioners,” said Hannah DeAngelo, director of enrollment compliance at South College Pittsburgh who also serves on the VOICE board. “We want to help our students navigate challenging situations that they may encounter in the workplace.”

VOICE provides confidential support services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and other crimes in Butler County. The organization presented information to South College students on identifying people who may be impacted by these issues in a healthcare setting and responding to patients with empathy, understanding and care. Students were also educated about available resources, including suicide prevention and crisis intervention.

“We are always looking for ways to make a positive impact in our community, whether that’s by ensuring our students have the training to tackle real-world challenges upon graduation, or through more tangible contributions in time and financial support,” South College Pittsburgh President Dr. Anne Petrella said.

Over the past three years, South College also has partnered with VOICE to provide professional attire for women in a shelter who are preparing to reenter the workforce. The institution has helped organize donation drives to help stock the shelter pantry and delivered more than $25,000 in Christmas gifts to women and children in protective care.

VOICE services include crisis intervention, emergency domestic violence shelter, transitional housing, advocacy-based counseling, legal representation, medical and social services advocacy, support groups, children’s advocacy, and community outreach and prevention programs. All services are confidential and free.

DeAngelo noted that its mission is close to her heart and she is proud of the partnership with South College.

“Together, we train people to go out into the world and help others, and it is truly inspiring to see the impact of this work,” DeAngelo said.

Located in Pittsburgh’s North Hills community in Cranberry Township, the South College campus offers a variety of healthcare programs, including Nursing, Health Science, Imaging Science, Respiratory Therapy and Surgical Technology.
