UScellular, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley Kick Off First Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Art Contest

Aug. 31, 2023

Mid-September marks the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15-Oct. 15, and in honor of the occasion, UScellular and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley have announced the kickoff of the First Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Art Contest.

Boys & Girls Clubs members created original pieces of artwork in recognition of influential Hispanic science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) icons, including historical figures, world leaders, scientists and educators. This year, seven clubs across UScellular’s service areas participated in the art contest, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley.

UScellular associates and Boys & Girls Clubs members Andrew Schmenger, Kayla Escalante Francisco, Angela Jimenez, Adam Jones, Haskell Vinson, Thomas White and Layida Kromah proudly show their original pieces of artwork in recognition of influential Hispanic science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) icons.

A maximum of 10 finalists from Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley will be chosen by club representatives and local UScellular leaders based on creativity, quality, interpretation, clarity of theme and overall impression. Anyone 18 and older can vote for their favorite art online from Sept. 15-22.

“We are thrilled to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and honor the talented youth in our community,” said Thomas White, director of sales for East Tennessee at UScellular. “As we take the opportunity to highlight the contributions that Hispanic people have made to STEM, we’re always so impressed by the imaginative, inspirational and insightful artwork that club members create for this beloved contest.”

After voting has been completed, the top three vote-getters will receive gift cards in the amounts of $250 for first place, $150 for second and $100 for third. The contest is sponsored by the Latino Network Association (LAN), UScellular’s associate resource group that is dedicated to creating an environment that attracts, develops and retains associates of Latin descent.
