UScellular and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley kicked off the sixth annual UScellular Black History Month Art Contest this week by hosting drawing days for Club members, who submitted original pieces of artwork in recognition of influential Black people across the world, including historical figures, world leaders, athletes and celebrities.
“We once again welcome the opportunity to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley for this annual contest to honor Black icons and showcase the talents of youth in our community,” said Nathan Waddell, director of sales for UScellular in East Tennessee. “We look forward to seeing the inspiration and vision created by the young artists and celebrating the winners in March.”
Ten finalists will be chosen this week by representatives from Boys & Girls Clubs and local UScellular leaders based on creativity, quality, interpretation, clarity of theme and overall impression.
“The UScellular Black History Month Art Contest inspires kids to learn about Black history and use their creativity to share it with others,” said Bart McFadden, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley. “Drawing days provide an opportunity for the kids to share what they’ve learned through their research and have fun creating art together.”
From Feb. 1-28, those 18 and older can vote online for their favorite piece of art. UScellular moved the voting from in-store to online to make it safe and convenient for the community to participate. The top three vote-getters will receive prizes of $250 for first place, $150 for second and $100 for third.
