Next week, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will conclude its 2015-2016 Moxley Carmichael Masterworks Series with Ride of the Valkyries conducted by Resident Conductor James Fellenbaum. The concert will take place on Thursday, May 12 and Friday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre and is sponsored by The Trust Company. “This concert is going to be epic…in just about every sense of the word!” said Resident Conductor James Fellenbaum. “We begin the program with Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, which is one of his best overtures, and most substantial. After which we present the Tennessee premiere of a new work by Christopher Theofanidis, called Dreamtime Ancestors. Orchestras in 48 states have taken part in this commission, so the national involvement in this piece has been huge! Then, to finish the concert, music from Richard Wagner’s The Ring: there will be massive forces on the stage, and music that is as incredible as the opera’s story itself. It’s going to be a truly wonderful — and, yes, epic — conclusion to the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra’s 80th Anniversary season, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it!”

Maestro James Fellenbaum is the Resident Conductor of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, celebrating his ninth season with the organization. In recent years, he has made his Masterworks and Chamber Classics conducting debuts with the KSO, while continuing to serve as an assistant for all other concerts in those series. He conducts Outreach Concerts, Pops, and Educational concerts, the latter of which includes the KSO’s annual Young People’s Concerts, which is attended by thousands of school children each year.  Maestro Fellenbaum also serves as Music Director for the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Patrons can attend pre-concert chats at 6:30 p.m. in the concert hall before each performance. Guest performers will offer their personal perspective and audience members will have a chance for Q&A with the artists. This is a unique get-to-know-you opportunity!

Tickets may be purchased by calling 865-291-3310 or visiting the KSO website. Single tickets range from $15.00 – $85.00. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets at a discounted rate by calling 865-521-2337.
