Home Federal Bank presents popular concert of gospel, spirituals and opera
In celebration of Black History Month, WUOT-FM 91.9 will broadcast “Knoxville Opera Goes to Church … A Celebration of Talent!” on Monday, Feb. 29, at 8 p.m.
Presented by Home Federal Bank and performed live Sept. 26, 2015, at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, the concert is a mix of opera and gospel performed by local artists.
“Knoxville Opera Goes to Church has become a beloved and much-anticipated celebration that routinely draws a large audience of enthusiastic music lovers,” Home Federal Bank Chairman and CEO Dale Keasling said. “This broadcast will allow those who couldn’t be there for the live show to enjoy this presentation of some of our area’s top talent. Those who were there can relive the experience.”
Listeners may hear the concert on the radio or via online streaming at http://www.wuot.org. The station’s radio signal is available throughout East Tennessee and in parts of Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia.
Program selections include: “We Fill the Sanctuary,” “In Bright Mansions Above,” “In His Care-O,” “God’s on Your Side,” “Give Me Jesus” and “Nothing is Impossible.” Also on the program were arias and duets from “Show Boat,” “Porgy and Bess,” “Tosca,” “Faust” and the opera “Mefistofele.”
Music Director Jeanie Turner Melton and Knoxville Opera Maestro Brian Salesky conducted the 40-voice Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir at the concert. Concert soloists included Cody Austin, Scott Bearden, Evelyn Jack, Julia Lima, Michael Rodgers, Donovan Singletary and Ernest Woods. Singletary recently finished the prestigious Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at The Metropolitan Opera and was the youngest male ever to join the program.
